Diamond Clarity


Diamonds form deep within the earth, under conditions of extreme heat and pressure. Because of this, almost all diamonds contain tiny imperfections within, called inclusions, or on their surface, called blemishes. Clarity grade refers to the degree which these things are present.

The Gemological Institute of America has established an 11 point scale for Clarity grading, which ranges from flawless (FL) to diamonds with obvious and severe inclusions (I3). The stones below demonstrate the steps in-between.
